Welcome back to Mind Over Motherhood!

I am so excited to share Episode 36 of Mind Over Motherhood with you this week! This week I had an incredible conversation with Courtney St. Croix of MOMFIDENTAF all about finding and sharing your story, and then getting it published!
If you have never met Courtney, you’re in for a huge treat. I have been a huge fan of Courtney’s for a long time…since way back when she hosted me on her podcast for Episode 86 of The Momfidence Podcast all about ANXIETY. You should absolutely have a listen to it and subscribe to her show! It’s hands-down one of my fave podcasts!
But without further ado, let’s dive into this week’s episode all about sharing your story and publishing it!

EMBRACING THE JOURNEY

THIS EPISODE DIGS INTO:

  • COURTNEY’S STORY: THE POWER OF THE PIVOT
    • Courtney began her business as a personal blog in 2015 prior to the birth of her daughter. At that time, she struggled to express herself and publish her blogs because she, like so many of us, feared what others would think of her.
    • Courtney’s background is in fitness and she worked in corporate fitness for 15 years. Her initial blog spoke a lot about fitness, health, exercise and body image. After the birth of her daughter, she began sharing a lot about struggles with her postpartum body on her platform. She then shifted her brand to talk about self-love, confidence and body love.
    • She began speaking more about confidence and sharing openly and vulnerably about her personal journey of postpartum body image and self-love.
    • Courtney shared that her first book actually sat on her desk as a near completed manuscript for years, and she initially published a self-love journal first. Her Self Love Journal was the first item she published, and followed that up with a Self Love Journal for Girls.
    • Courtney’s fifth published project was MOMFIDENT As F*ck and is now a bestseller on Amazon.
    • After publishing her own projects, Courtney began creating co-authored projects to help and empower other women to learn how to write and publish their own stories.

  • HOW TO FEEL THE CONFIDENCE TO SHARE YOUR STORY
    • Courtney shares that when she creates co-authored projects, she thinks of the women sitting at home, desiring to share their stories with the world. She also thinks of the women who is holding the finished book her her hands, and how the words on the pages will change her life, inspire her and make her feel supported.
    • She also thinks of the woman who is struggling in her own experience, and how the connection between author and reader is so profound. It’s important to remember that your story can do so much for other women. So many of us are craving connection and support in this digital world, and a book provides a tangible opportunity for us to connect with eachother.

  • YOU’RE A WRITER EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT PUBLISHED
    • Both Courtney and Carly share that they have been a writers for as long as they can remember. From poetry as a child, short stories and blogs, it can sometimes feel like until you’ve truly published something, you’re not really a writer.
    • However, this is so not true. If you write, you’re a writer. If you run, you’re a runner. Don’t let your mind tell you that you need to meet a certain milestone before you can consider yourself something you’ve always felt like you’ve been.
    • Many women feel quite overwhelmed when they consider writing a whole solo book of 60 000+ words. Co-authored book projects offer a beautiful opportunity for you to share a small aspect of your story, a lesson you have learned and for you to test the waters or dip a toe into the writing/publishing world without so much overwhelm.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE:

  • THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF WRITING AND STORY TELLING
    • Courtney and Carly discuss how the landscape around story-telling has changed. Writing on social media or blogging has changed in that people tend to use these platforms in different ways, to share information and wisdom, practical strategies or how-tos.
    • Books, in contrast, offer a very powerful way to connect and share your story in a deep and vulnerable way. Courtney shares that for some reason, it feels like sharing your story in a book feels more intimate, authentic and raw.
  • PUBLISHING HAS CHANGED
    • What used to be a huge undertaking to become a published author has now become so much more accessible. The evolution of self-publishing has changed the landscape of publishing and allowed so many more people to get their messages and stories out into the world.

    • Courtney shares a variety of ways to become published and offers support along the way, from her Self-Publishing Course, to Co-author Projects and even high-level 1:1 solo publishing support. Courtney includes coaching in her co-authored projects and helps authors find their stories, feel empowered to share them and even support around structuring your story and the writing process.
